The core of the working principle of condensing dehumidifiers is to cool the air so that its moisture condenses into water droplets, which are then collected and removed. Its working process is similar to the refrigeration process of air conditioning, but condensing dehumidifiers focus on reducing humidity rather than temperature.
Workflow
Air intake
The fan of the dehumidifier draws indoor air into the machine. After the air enters the machine, it will pass through a series of filters to remove some of the dust and particulate matter, protect the internal components, ensure the dehumidification effect and the normal operation of the machine.
Cooling coil
The filtered air is directed to the cooling coil (usually made of copper or aluminum tubes). A low-temperature refrigerant (such as Freon or R410A) flows in the cooling coil. The refrigerant absorbs heat in the coil and reduces the temperature of the coil to below the dew point temperature in the air. The dew point temperature is the temperature at which moisture in the air begins to condense. Water vapor in the air condenses into water droplets when it contacts the cooling coil.
Moisture condensation
When water vapor in the air encounters the cooling coil, the moisture in the air begins to condense into liquid water due to the drop in temperature. These water droplets flow down the surface of the coil and are collected in a water collection tank or water storage tank. This process effectively removes moisture from the air, thereby reducing indoor humidity.
Air heating and exhaust
After the condensed air flows through the cooling coil, the temperature will drop. To prevent the indoor air from being too cold, some high-end models are equipped with heating elements (such as electric heaters) to heat the treated air to close to the original temperature. The dry and warm air is then re-expelled into the room through a fan to maintain a comfortable indoor environment.
Moisture removal
The moisture extracted from the air will collect in the water storage tank, which needs to be emptied regularly to keep the device working properly. Some high-end models are equipped with an automatic drainage system that directly discharges water through a hose, eliminating the trouble of manual cleaning.
